JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today demanded justice for murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of private Primeasia University, who was allegedly stabbed to death after a brief altercation near the university premises on Saturday.

Protesting the killing of Parvez, leaders and activists of JCD formed a human chain around 1:00 pm on the university’s main road adjacent to the central Shaheed Minar.

Addressing the human chain, Jahir Uddin Babor, convener of the JU unit Chhatra Dal, said, “Parvez was brutally murdered in broad daylight. CCTV footage clearly shows the involvement of at least 15 to 20 activists of Chhatra League and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.”

“We give an ultimatum to the interim government for the arrest of those responsible for the murder to ensure justice within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, Jahangirnagar University Chhatra Dal will announce even stricter and more vigorous protest programmes,” he added.

Md. Affan Ali, Joint Convener of JU Chhatra Dal, said, “I am sorry to say that those who were involved in the murder are former Chhatra League activists. The banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, under which we protested during the July movement, is now being used as a rehabilitation center for Chhatra League.”

“Awami League is carrying out targeted killings in various places in a planned manner. We urge all existing student organizations to take a stand against them and stop this so-called rehabilitation,” he urged.

The human chain was moderated by Wasim Ahmed Anik, member secretary of JU JCD while speakers demanded the immediate arrest and maximum punishment for those involved in the killing of Parvez.

They further alleged that a series of conspiratorial murders since August 5 indicate the continued presence of pro-Awami League forces in the country.

The student community will remain vigilant and ready to resist any attempts to destabilize the country, they added.
