Secured postal ballots for expats to strengthen democracy: Taiyeb

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today said that   the first ever launching of postal ballot service   for the expatriate Bangladeshis in the upcoming 13th national elections will strengthen democracy.

 Speaking at a press conference as the chief guest on World Post Day at the Postal Directorate in Agargaon here, he told reporters, “This is a historic step to further strengthen democracy in the country.”

“Voting by expatriates will be conducted using three envelopes, ensuring safety and confidentiality,” he added. 

Highlighting the evolution of the Bangladesh Postal Department, Taiyeb said the institution is no longer just a medium for exchanging letters but has transformed into a modern and reliable service provider in the digital era.

“Currently, about 40,000 officials and employees are delivering services to the people’s doorsteps through 9,848 post offices across the country,” he noted.

He added that services such as land registration, passport delivery, smart national ID card and driving license distribution are now being provided directly to citizens through postal channels.

The Special Assistant also said that 'Geofencing' is being undertaken in a public-private partnership with the aim of digitalizing citizens' addresses and at the same time, initiatives have been taken to implement a pilot project to protect personal information.

In an effort to combat e-commerce fraud, he said the government will introduce a Central Logistics Tracking Platform by next month. 

He added that the use of artificial intelligence and automation will improve both the speed and quality of postal services while also promoting digital financial inclusion.

Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Shish Haider Chowdhury, Director General of Directorate of Posts S M Shahab Uddin and senior officials from the ministry and Directorate of Posts were also present, among others, on the occasion.
