DNCC to vaccinate 13 lakh children against typhoid

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to launch next week an anti-typhoid vaccination campaign for children aged between 9 to 15 years within its purview in the capital, officials said today.

“We will vaccinate the children below 15 years within our jurisdiction whether or not they have birth registrations during the 18-day long campaign starting October 12,” DNCC’s chief health officer Brigadier General Imrul-Al-Quais Chowdhury said.

He said DNCC estimated nearly 13 lakh children of the age group to come under the Typhoid Vaccination Campaign-2025 while the municipal entity divided its coverage area in 10 zones in collaboration with health ministry, UNICEF and WHO.

He made the announcement at a media briefing at Nagar Bhaban joined as well by DNCC health officer Dr Mahmuda Ali and concerned officials.

According to the top DNCC health official over 7.5 lakh school students and 5. 3 lakh other children in neighbourhoods would be administered the vaccine.

He said for initial 10 days excluding weekends the campaign would be carried out at schools and during the rest of the 18 working days it would be conducted at permanent EPI vaccination centres until November 13.

Quais said the campaign would be carried out at satellite and outreach EPI centres from November 1 to November 13, excluding Friday and public holidays.

“Our teams, each comprising two vaccination workers and three volunteers will administer the vaccines from 8 am to 3:30 pm every day excluding Friday and public holidays,” the DNCCC health official said.

The DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz will open the campaign at a ceremony at Dhaka Residential Model College at Mohammadpur.
