SHERPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - To curb the spread of typhoid fever, the
government will launch a nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign under the
Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) from October 12, aiming to cover
3,83,194 children in Sherpur district.

"Children under 15 years enrolled in educational institutions will receive
the typhoid vaccine at their respective schools, while out-of-school children
aged between 9 months and under 15 years will be vaccinated at existing fixed
and outreach EPI centers," said Civil Surgeon of Sherpur Dr Md Shahin at a
press briefing held today.

The campaign will run for 18 working days from October 12 to November 13.
Vaccinations will be conducted in educational institutions and permanent
vaccination centers during the first phase (October 12-30), and in community
areas (rural and urban) during the following two weeks (November 1-13).

Out of the total target, 2,42,634 children will be vaccinated through
educational institutions and 1,40,756 outside schools. So far, 58 percent of
registrations have been completed.

There will be 1,680 vaccination centers in educational institutions and 1,350
permanent centers across the district.

"Typhoid is a preventable infectious disease. The government has undertaken
this free vaccination campaign to protect children's health," Dr Shahin said,
adding that the WHO-approved vaccine is both safe and effective.

"The initiative will not only safeguard children but also help reduce long-
term illness and mortality caused by typhoid across the country," he said.
