A makeshift Eid market gutted in Khulna

KHULNA, March 19, 2025(BSS) - A devastating fire broke out in a makeshift Eid market at Picture Palace intersection in Khulna gutting at least 44 shops including garments, cookeries and cosmetics early today.

The fire originated from a shop around 5:40 AM and speedily engulfed to neighbours shops of the market, fire service officials told BSS.

Upon receiving the information, nine firefighting units from city's different stations rushed to the scene and managed to control the fire after one and half hour of efforts.

The burnt shops included that of cosmetics, clothes, shoes, bags and other products, fire service official added.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Kotwali police station Hawladar Sanowar Hossain Masum said they visited the scene and it was still unclear whether it was a fire incident or sabotage.

However, the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately, OC added.

No causalities were reported in this fire incident.
