BCG arrests two with 4 firearms, 3,000 Yaba in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 8, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained two 
people with four country-made firearms and 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from 
Karnafuli River early today.

The arrested were Md. Wahid Helal, 28, and Junaidul Islam Sami, 26, hailed 
from Anwara upazila of the district. 

Several cases including theft, robbery and drug cases were pending against 
the duo with Patenga, Anwara and Maheshkhali Police Stations.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patenga Police Station 
Shafiqul Islam said, on a tip-off, a team of the BCG arrested Helal and Sami 
with the firearms and contraband drugs from the estuary of Karnaphuli river 
channel, adjacent area of the city's Patenga thana.
 
The boat that used to smuggle the aforesaid yaba was seized from the spot, 
the BGC sources said.

"The Coast Guard handed over the arrested to the police station," the OC 
said, adding that a case was filed against them with the police station.
