DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard today detained a deer poacher along with 110 kgs of venison in a special operation in the Sundarbans.

The arrestee was Ariful Sarder, 24, of Dacope upazila in Khulna district.

"On a tip-off, a special operation was carried out around 10.00 am by the Coast Guard's Nalian outpost near the Nalian Thakur Bari Ghat, close to the Sundarbans," said Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Md Siam-ul-Haq.

During the operation, several suspects, including Mohammad Shahjahan and Mohammad Anu, both the associates of notorious the Sundarbans robber Karim Sharif, noticed the presence of Coast Guard personnel and fled the scene, leaving two boats loaded with deer meat. Upon searching the boats, the Coast Guard recovered 110 kilograms of deer meat.

The arrested Ariful, during interrogation, said that the fleeing suspects had used him for the poaching operation.

The Coast Guard has handed over Ariful and the confiscated deer meat to the Nalain Forest Office for further legal action under the Forest Law.
