3 cases filed against 2,900 over vandalism and looting in Khulna

KHULNA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - Three cases were filed against 2,900 unidentified people with the Sonadanga Police Station over attacking, vandalizing and looting Bata showroom, KFC and Domino's Pizza in the city.

In the latest development, police during a drive last night arrested five more individuals in this connection and seized looted shoes and other items, Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga Police Station confirmed.

Towhidul Islam, Manager of Bata showroom at the City's Shibbari intersection, filed a case last night against 1200-1300 unidentified criminals as plaintiff.

Besides, Sujon Mondal and Shamsul Alam, managers of KFC and Domino's Pizza at the City's Dalmil intersection, filed two different cases with the same police station against 700-800 unidentified people as plaintiffs.

According to the cases, the plaintiffs stated the attackers targeted their outlets during a procession that paraded along KDA Avenue on Monday evening. The procession followed a rally held at the Shibbari intersection in response to a global strike on April 7, expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza.

They also reported that the attackers vandalized and looted wealth worth over Taka one crore, including shoes, cades, beverages and valuable goods.

Talking to BSS, Md Ahsan Habib, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Khulan Metropolitan Police (KMP), said with the latest five arrests, the total number of people detained in connection with the vandalism and looting has reached 36.
