4-day Baishabi festival begins in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - Four-day programmes have begun today in the 
district to celebrate Baishabi festival, a major festival of the ethnic 
peoples of Chittagong Hill Tracts welcoming the Bangla New Year.

Chakma Circle Chief Raja Barrister Debashish Roy inaugurated the programme 
this morning at the premises of Rangamati Municipality.

Presided over by the Convener of Biju, Sangrai, Baisuk, Sangkran, Bishu, Bihu 
Udjapan Parishad Prakriti Ranjan Chakma, the programme was attended, among 
others, by former lawmaker Ushatan Talukder, vice-president of Parbatya 
Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti, member secretary of the festival committee 
Intu Moni Talukder and leaders of various political and social organisations. 

After inaugurating the cultural programme, a colorful rally was brought out 
from the municipality premises that ended at Rajbari Shilpakala Academy after 
parading main streets of the town.

In the procession, young people from different ethnic groups wore traditional 
costumes and showcased their culture. 

Besides, people from different communities of the district dressed in 
traditional costumes and expressed their joy through dance and songs and 
participated in the procession. 

This programme will continue till April 12. Several cultural programmes, 
traditional sports and various competitions will be held in different areas 
of the district to mark the occasion of Baishabi.
