CHATTOGRAM, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - Various political and student organizations have organized protests rallies, processions, sit-in and mass signature collection programs at various places in the city demanding ban on Awami League (AL).
The demand for a ban on the AL has intensified as different political parties and anti-fascist groups extended their support in favor of the demand initiated by the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Since this afternoon, the protesters belong to different anti-fascist political groups including NCP and July Oikya Mancha have blocked city's New Market intersection and Sholoshahar Biplob Udyan area to press home their three point demands that includes imposing immediate ban on AL, amendment to the ICT Act with provision for AL's trial and declaration of the July proclamation.
In solidarity with the Shahbagh mass gathering, separate protest rallies were also held in different areas in the city and district.
The protesters also screened a documentary at Gate No. 2 Biplob Udyan at 7 p.m. projecting various episodes of July uprising.
Earlier, NCP held a mass signature collection program at Biplob Udyan at 4:30 this afternoon. A large number of students and people of different strata put their signature in favour of 3-point demands.
The protesters held a rally under the banner of 'Anti-Fascist Bir Chattala Mancha' in Biplob Uddyan area.
Leaders of NCP and Student Against Discrimination including Nila Afroz, Zawadul Karim and Emon Syeed were spoke at the rally.
Meanwhile, a mass gathering and sit-in program was held at New Market Square at 3 p.m. under the banner of July Oikya Mancha. They also set up a temporary stage there. July Oikya Mancha organizer Md. Ibrahim and others spoke at the event.
Leaders of July Oikya Mancha alleged that no decision has been taken yet to ban AL even nine months have passed since the escaping of fascist Hasina.
They said people of the whole world have seen the brutality and indiscriminate killing of students, child and general masses but the murderers have not been brought to justice yet.
They warned of launching tougher agitation program if their demands are not meet immediately.
