BOGURA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) -Police have recovered 577 sacks of embezzled rice and arrested three individuals, including the ringleader, during a raid in Erulia Silkibanda area in the district on Friday night.
The arrested are truck driver Md Abdur Rashid, 52, his helper Md Sohel Rana,31 and associate Md Ranju (31).
The recovered rice, weighing around 15,002 kilograms (kg), is valued at approximately Taka 10.57 lakh.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Atoar Rahman, the rice was embezzled while being transported from Hili, Dinajpur to Ashulia, Dhaka on August 19.
A case was filed by transport businessman Delwar Hossain on August 22, prompting a DB investigation.
Police said the accused admitted their involvement in repeated embezzlement in guise of contract transport. Ranju has six prior cases in police stations while Rashid and Sohel each have one. All three have been sent to court.
