JU suspends 16 students over ragging allegation

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Oct 13, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have temporarily suspended 16 students of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department over allegations of ragging junior students at Hall No. 21 (Male) on yesterday night.

The decision was taken as per the directive of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan under Section 4(1)(b) of the Jahangirnagar University Students' Disciplinary Ordinance, 2018, said an office order issued this evening by JU's Acting Registrar A B M Azizur Rahman.

According to the order, the suspended students-all from the 53rd batch (Academic Session 2023-24) of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department-have been temporarily expelled for their alleged involvement in ragging members of the 54th batch (Academic Session 2024-25).

The suspended students are -- Md Tanvir Rahman Mun, Md Abdullah Al Fahad, Abdullah Al Said, Md Abu Talha Roni, Rajib Sheikh, S M Mahamudunnabi, Md Abu Said, Jannatul Adon, Ahmed Arefin Ratul, Tasnimul Hasan Jubaer, Md Mahamudul Hasan Fuad, Md Al Hasib, Md Abdullah Al Noman, Md Rakibul Hasan Nibir, Md Jahidul Islam and Ushanto Tripura.

Meanwhile, the university authorities have formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident. The committee is headed by Provost of Maulana Bhashani Hall Professor Dr Md Kamrujjaman, with Assistant Proctor Dr Md Al-Amin Khan as a member and Deputy Registrar (Higher Education and Scholarship) Lutfur Rahman Arif as member-secretary.

The committee has been directed to submit its report with recommendations within 21 working days.
