DHAKA, Nov 28, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned and protested the attack on BNP leaders and activists during the election campaign in Ishwardi, Pabna.

BNP alleged that local leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami carried out the planned attack on BNP leaders and activists during the election campaign in Ishwardi on Thursday afternoon, said a statement of the party issued on Thursday (November 27) night.

The statement said over 50 BNP leaders and activists were injured in the attack and they were undergoing treatment.

The party claimed that Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate Abu Taleb Mandal himself led the attack.

The statement said some local religious people protested when Jamaat activists lured voters using words like "religious temptation and ticket of Jannat (haven) " during their campaign. Later, Jamaat activists attacked the BNP men and targeted them indiscriminately.

BNP also said despite some media outlets publishing misleading reports, a picture published in the Daily Manab Zamin newspaper showed Jamaat activist Tushar “holding a weapon”.

In a statement, the BNP said it was determined to maintaining a peaceful political environment, but this restraint should not be considered as its weakness. Despite the violence, it will not respond to the attack - because if the electoral environment is uncertain, the country’s democratic progress will be hampered.

The BNP demanded a fair probe into the incident, bringing the real perpetrators to justice, and taking effective steps by the government to ensure a peaceful election environment.
