Hilsha, illegal nets worth Tk 7 crore seized in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a large quantity of illegal fishing nets and Hilsha fish worth around Tk 7 crore during a joint drive in Munshiganj.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team conducted a raid in the Boyatir Char area under Sreenagar upazila on Monday, the Coast Guard media wing said in a press release.

During the operation, the team seized 20 lakh meters of current nets, 40 pieces of Chinese Duari nets and 20 kilograms of Hilsha fish with a total estimated value of Tk 7.01 crore.

The confiscated nets were later destroyed in the presence of the Munshiganj District Fisheries Officer, while the recovered Hilsha fish were distributed among local madrasa-based orphanages, the release added.
