Dhaka, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has the technological and institutional capacity to counter any potential cyberattack targeting the country's airports and aviation systems,.

This is revealed today at a seminar marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month - October 2025, organized by CAAB's Information Technology (IT) Division at its headquarters in Kurmitola, Dhaka.

The event was part of a month-long global campaign to promote cybersecurity awareness and strengthen resilience across critical sectors.

The seminar aimed to enhance awareness among CAAB officials and employees about protecting personal and institutional data, mitigating cyber risks, and fostering a culture of digital responsibility in aviation.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, as the chief guest emphasized that Cybersecurity is no longer an option, it is a fundamental necessity.

"Every member of the aviation community has a responsibility to safeguard systems and data. Even minor negligence in our daily work can lead to serious risks, but through vigilance and adherence to basic safety practices, we can ensure a secure and trustworthy cyber environment," he said.

He noted that almost all aviation operations-ranging from air traffic management and passenger data protection to infrastructure communications-now depend on digital systems.

"A single cyberattack or security breach can have devastating effects, not only undermining passenger confidence but also destabilizing the global aviation network," the CAAB chief said.

Pointing out that aviation is an interconnected global domain, he cautioned that an attack on one airport could have international consequences.

"If multiple airports face simultaneous cyber incidents, it could disrupt international communication, delay flight schedules, or even paralyze air traffic management," he warned.

The CAAB chairman stressed that cybersecurity must be viewed as a collective responsibility, not limited to IT professionals alone.

He urged officials to adopt secure passwords, avoid suspicious links, and keep systems regularly updated, underscoring that awareness is the first line of defense.

"If we understand how cyberattacks occur, we can prevent them more effectively," he said. "Quick reporting and rapid response are vital to minimizing damage."

Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan Member (Operations and Planning), presided over the event, while CAAB's Senior System Analyst Khandaker Azizur Rahman delivered a technical presentation on Safe Online Living.

Later, Mehboob told media that CAAB is fully equipped to detect, prevent, and neutralize any cyber threats that could compromise aviation safety or disrupt airport operations.
