DHAKA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed the authorities concerned to investigate into the devastating fire in a garment factory and chemical warehouse at Shialbari in the city's Mirpur area that so far claimed 16 lives and injured several others.

"Chief Adviser, who is in Rome now, has been informed about the tragic fire in Mirpur. He immediately asked the authorities concerned to investigate into the incident and expressed shock at the deaths in the fire," Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told media in a briefing in Rome today.

"We stand beside the affected families," he quoted Professor Yunus as he saying.

Noting that such fire incidents occurred in chemical factories in previous times in Bangladesh, Shafiqul said, "Despite our utmost efforts, it has been noticed that some people set up such factories illegally".

An investigation is now underway to verify whether the establishments had valid licenses and proper fire safety clearance from the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department, he said, adding, following the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken against those responsible.
