PANCHAGARH, May 11, 2025 (BSS) - Another endangered Nilgai (blue bull) was rescued today in an injured condition from the Sarkarpada area of Garinabari union under Sadar upazila of the district-marking the second such rescue within a month.

Locals said workers in a chili field near the Indian border in Sarkarpada village first spotted the animal hiding in a nearby cornfield. Upon receiving information, officials of the Panchagarh Forest Department rescued the Nilgai.

Acting Officer of the Panchagarh Forest Department, Haripada Debnath, said, "The Nilgai entered Bangladesh from India by crossing the border. We rescued it and brought it under our care."

The Nilgai is currently being looked after by the Forest Department. Officials said it will be transferred to the Safari Park in Gazipur once it recovers. The rescued animal is estimated to be about two years old, the official added.

On April 9, another injured Nilgai was rescued from the Joydharbhanga border area under Chaklahat union of the same upazila.

The Nilgai, known for its timid nature, is an endangered species and tends to flee upon seeing humans.
