Human chain formed demanding steps to protect Jamuna River erosion

Manikganj, May, 13, 2025 (BSS) - People of Teota under Shibabalaya Upazila in the district formed a human chain today demanding steps by the authorities to prevent untimely Jamuna River erosion in the area.

Several hundred people from all walks of life, including who lost their lands and houses joined the protest.

The speakers at the event said that the unplanned sand lifting from the Jamuna River is the main cause of the erosion. 

Former Daulatpur Upazila Chairman and BNP leader Tozammel Haque Toza demanded immediate steps to protect the houses and croplands of the people of the areas. He urged the government to take permanent measures to build embankment from Daulatpur to Shibabalaya to save the houses, lands and roads including Schools, Madrasa, Teota Union Parishad office, bazaar and the Teota Zamindar house.
