KHULNA, May 18, 2025 (BSS) – Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdul Awal today filed a case in a Khulna Court, demanding the annulment of the allegedly fraudulent results of the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election in 2023.

Principal Moulana Abdul Awal, who was also the mayoral candidate for the KCC election on June 12, 2023, filed the case with the Khulna Election Tribunal, claiming that he was the actual winner of the KCC's mayoral race.

Md. Khorshed Alam, Judge of the Joint District Judge Court and Election Tribunal, fixed May 28 to hear the case.

In the case, the plaintiff demanded that the results declaring Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque as the winner be nullified and that Abdul Awal be declared the rightful winner.

According to the petition filed by Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s mayoral candidate Abdul Awal who contested the polls with hand fan symbol, the election was marred by violence and irregularities.

As a result, Talukder Abdul Khaleque was declared winner with 154,825 votes, while the hand fan candidate was shown to have received only 60,064 votes.

The case was filed under Rule 91 of the City Corporation Election Rules 2021.
