BHOLA, May 21, 2025 (BSS)- A total of 102,769 cattle are ready for sacrifice 
in seven upazilas of the district for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha while 
exceeding the demand of 90,263 cattle

After fulfilling the demand additional animals will be sent to other parts of 
the country, according to the Department of Livestock Services. 
 
Farmers in the district are busy preparing and fattening their cattle for the 
upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. They are primarily using natural methods, including 
green grass, oilcake, straw, grains and traditional healthy feeds to fatten 
their farm animals.

Cattle farmers have expressed concerns about the rising cost of feed this 
year compared to previous years, making it challenging to fatten their 
animals. They hope to offset their losses by selling their cattle at good 
prices. 

A major concern for them is the potential influx of Indian cattle into the 
market, which could severely impact local farmers during the Eid-ul-Azha.

Timon Mia, a farmer from Alinagar village in Sadar upazila of the district, 
stated that he has prepared around 50 cattle for sacrifice this year. Of 
those, a couple has been sold and he has yet to receive significant buyer 
interest. 

Akter Hossain, owner of Akter Dairy Farm in Char Anandgram of Sadar upazila, 
said, "My farm has prepared nearly a hundred local breed cattle. Despite many 
potential buyers visiting, I haven't sold a single animal yet."

Information indicates that about 20,000 small and large cattle farms in the 
district with each farm having a substantial number of local cattle ready for 
sale for sacrifice during the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Bhola District Livestock Officer Rafiqul Islam Khan told BSS that numerous 
monitoring teams from the department will be active in every cattle market 
across the district. 

Veterinary medical teams will be deployed to provide animal healthcare and 
identify cattle fattened with harmful chemicals, he added.
