DINAJPUR, May 21, 2025 (BSS)- A mother and her daughter were killed by a lightning strike at Chirirbandar upazila of the district.

The deceased are Kakoli Rani Roy, 32, wife of Mahadev Chandra Roy of Mitrabati village in the upazila, and her daughter Joyashree Roy, 12.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar Police Station Md. Abdul Wadud said, " A thunderbolt struck them while they were drying paddy at the courtyard around 4:30pm." Joyashree died on the spot.

Kakoli Rani was taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at 7 pm.

Besides, Sakhawat Hossain, 35, son of Sirajul Islam from Laxmipur village in the same Amarpara Union, was also injured by a thunderbolt. He is now undergoing treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
