Main accused in Dhaka's clueless murder case held in Gaibandha

RANGPUR, July 9, 2025 (BSS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the main accused in the sensational clueless brick kiln worker Khokan murder case of Dhaka's South Keraniganj police station from Gaibandha on Tuesday night. 
 
The arrested person is Md Shafiul Islam, 40, a resident of Dakshin Shreepur Kellabari village of Sundarganj police station in Gaibandha, a press release said this evening. 
 
The victim laborer Khokan worked at a brick kiln in Jajira village of South Keraniganj police station. 
 
On May 13, 2023, brick kiln workers’ leader Alam informed the deceased's wife on mobile phone that her husband had gone to bathe in the river Buriganga, but did not return. 
 
Later, she found the body of her husband Khokan floating in the waters of the Buriganga at the Boat Dock point adjacent to Jajira village. 
 
On receiving the information, the police of Pagla naval police outpost reached the spot and sent the body to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy and filed an unnatural death case. 
 
After receiving the autopsy report, police came to know that the victim died due to asphyxiation. 
 
Later, the victim's wife filed a murder case with the South Keraniganj police station on August 15, 2023. 
 
On a tip-off, a special team of Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-3 of RAB-13 from Gaibandha camp arrested the main accused in the murder case, Shafiul Islam, from Kamarjani Bazar of Sadar police station, Gaibandha at 7:45 pm. 
 
The elite force has handed over the arrested person to the South Keraniganj police station for further legal action, the release further said.
