LALMONIRHAT, July 10, 2025 (BSS) – Around 100 landless families of Kashiram village in Tushvendar union under Kaliganj upazila of the district got their land back after long time.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) recovered about 7 acres of land allotted by the government for 100 landless families of the area on Wednesday afternoon.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Zakia Sultana was present on the spot to recover the land. The lands were handed over to the families in his presence.

In 2000, 100 landless families were rehabilitated by constructing barracks on about 15 acres of land in Kashiram village. However, the barracks disappeared into the riverbed due to river erosion in 2003-04.

Later, when new chars emerged in the same place, 6.66 acres of land were recovered and the landless families were rehabilitated there.

However, the real rightful owners did not get back their land because the land was in the possession of illegal occupants for a long time.

With the help of Kaliganj police and the Army, around 6.66 acres of land were recovered and the landless people who had been rehabilitated by 5 percent land acquisition in the past were given this land, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zakia Sultana.

Due to recovery of the land, the landless people have again found a place to build their homes anew.
