RANGPUR, July 22, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused on charges of forcibly raping a teenage girl of Nilphamari from the Kathgara area under Ashulia Police Station of Dhaka on Monday night.
The detainee is Md Mamun Islam, 23, son of Md Chhanowar Hossain of Tepurdanga village under Sadar Police Station of Nilphamari, said a press release issued here today.
Earlier, the accused had proposed to the victim several times, but she had rejected him.
In this context, when the victim went out to the courtyard of her house for personal needs at night, the accused skillfully covered the victim's face with a towel and took her to the bank of a nearby pond and forcibly raped her at around 8 pm on June 27, 2025.
Later, the victim's father filed a rape case with the Nilphamari Sadar Police Station in this incident on June 29, 2025.
On a tip-off, a joint operational team of the RAB-13's Nilphamari camp and RAB-4 from Savar Camp in a raid arrested the main accused Md Mamun Islam from the Kathgara area under Ashulia police station of Dhaka at 10:15 pm on Monday.
The arrested accused has been handed over to Nilphamari Sadar Police Station for further action.
