RANGPUR, Aug 16, 2025 (BSS) - A daring theft was committed at the house of a BNP leader in the Nurpur area of the city in the early hours of Saturday.

Unknown miscreants stole 13 bhoris of gold jewelry and Tk 4.5 lakh in cash from the residence.

The victim, Rajib Chowdhury, is the central co-organizing secretary of Zia Mancha, a BNP-affiliated organization.

Md Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the matter to BSS.

He said Rajib Chowdhury's wife, Airin Akhter Setu, and daughter, Nur Rifa Sneha, had gone to Birampur upazila in Dinajpur on Friday due to the illness of his father-in-law.

Rajib Chowdhury, who suffers from various health conditions, reportedly fell asleep after taking medicine.

Finding the house vulnerable, the thieves locked the main door from outside late at night and looted the valuables.

Upon receiving information, members of police, CID, and RAB-13 visited the scene on Saturday morning.

The victim has filed a case in this connection. Legal procedures are underway, the OC added.
