CHATTOGRAM, August 16, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today there should be no division in the society to build a new Bangladesh.

"We must abstain from splitting the society if we want to establish a new Bangladesh," Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said while speaking as chief guest at the religious conference and the Sadhu Santa Rishi Vaishnav Maha Sammelan.

He added, "BNP does not believe in divisive politics rather it wants to establish a happy and prosperous country ensuring involvement of people of all religions and castes."

The religious conference was held on the 1st day of four-day program series on occasion of Janmashtami festival at the city's JM Sen Hall.

Addressing the function, he said people have faith on different religions and involve themselves in different political parties as per their choice. It is beauty of democracy and it doesn't conflict with democracy and constitution.

He said tolerance to dissents is crucial to build a prosperous modern Bangladesh.

Mutual tolerance and differences of opinions are fundamental characteristics of a democratic society, Amir Khasru added.

Referring to the teachings and ideology of Sri Krishna, Amir Khasru Mahmud said Lord Krishn's teachings and efforts contributed a lot to save the mankind from many injustices and misdeeds.

The BNP leader said none should be credited as 'non-communal leader' separately, arguing, "If anyone abides by country's constitution, he must be a non-communal and our constitution guarantees equal rights to all citizens regardless of caste, creeds and religions."

"We must obey basic principles of a plural and democratic society to maintain peace and harmony in the country." Amir Khasru said adding, "I don't believe in the concept of minority. We are all equal and deserve equal rights. It is the duty of the government to protect the rights of all its citizens."

"Those who promote communal politics were defeated in the past and will face the same fate. The citizens of Bangladesh used to reject communalism and are united in building a better future for greater welfare of the nation," he said.

General Secretary of Shri Shri Janmashtami Celebration Committee of Bangladesh Lion RK Das Rupu presided over the function held at J M Sen Hall premises.

Swami Sachidananda Puri Maharaj lit the Mangalpradip while Biplob Kumar Parth, Executive Secretary of the Central Celebration Committee delivered the welcome speech.

Former General Secretary of Chattogram City BNP Abul Hashem Bakkar, President of Pachuria Tapoban Ashram Rabiswarananda Puri Maharaj and President of Bholananda Giri Mandir Umeshananda Giri Maharaj, among others, addressed the function.
