Janmastami celebrated in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 16, 2025 (BSS) - Janmastami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, was celebrated today amid festivity and religious fervour here as elsewhere in the country.
 
The day's programmes include worship of Lord Krishna, GeetaJagna, Kirtan, rally, distribution of sweetmeats and discussions.
 
As part of the celebration, Rajshahi city unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and members of the Hindu Darmiyan Kalyan Trust held Janmastami celebration functions at Hanumanjiur Akhra in the city.
 
They also brought out a colourful rally from the Akhra premises, which passed through different areas, including Shaheb Bazar, Alupatty, Kumarpara and Malopara, before ending at the same area.
 
Janmashtami Udjapan Committee President Sunil Chandra Pramanik, secretary Swapan Kumar Sarker, BNP leaders Biswanath Sarker, Jobayed Hossain and Saidur Rahman and City unit president of Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Oikya Parishad Achinta Kumar Biswash, among others, joined the rally.
 
They spoke on the occasion calling for following the ideals and teachings of Lord Krishna to maintain peace, harmony and stability in the society.
 
Biswanath Sarker said Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony where people of all the religions have been observing their respective religious festivals freely for long.
 
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University (RU) administration celebrated the Janmashtami on its campus in a befitting manner.
 
Highlighting the significance of Janmashtami, the authority organised a colourful rally and discussion with RU Central Temple Operating Committee President Professor Komol Krishna Biswash in the chair.

In Durgapur Upazila, Srikrishner Janmastami has been celebrated through a daylong programme, including an ananda rally. Upazila Janmashtami Udjapan Committee and Durgapur Central Kali Mandir jointly organized the celebration programmes.
 
Janmastami celebration reports also reached here from the districts of Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Bogura, Joypurhat, Sirajganj, Pabna and Natore under Rajshahi division.
