DHAKA, Aug16, 2025 (BSS) - Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mohammad Azaz today said that the DNCC has been carrying out the cleanliness drive with community participation.
“Without the consciousness of all sections of people of the city, it is not possible to keep the city clean,” he said while addressing the concluding function of the Bangladesh Qualifier of the SpoGomi World Cup-2025 at Sandha-Maloti playing field under sector-18 of Uttara area.
The cleaners clean the city all night long, but due to the ignorance of the city dwellers, the city turns dirty again before noon the next day, he said adding that it is not possible to keep the city clean without citizen’s awareness and active participation.
Garbage management in the city has become more difficult since footpaths are occupied illegally by hawkers, Mohammad Azaz added.
A total of 210 participants divided into 70 teams took part in the competition and collected garbage from different areas under sector 18 for one hour. The participants later divided the garbage into different categories within next 20 minutes.
Seven teams will join the final competition and three participants from the champion team will represent Bangladesh to the 2nd SpoGomi World Cup-2025 to be held in Japan in October next.
Originating in Japan, SpoGomi is a team-based competition where participants collect litter from designated areas within a set time and sort it into categories. Teams earn points based on the type and weight of collected waste.
