Tk 30 lakh cr laundered abroad during Hasina's tenure: Bulu

CUMILLA, August 16, 2025 (BSS) - BNP central vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu today said that Tk 30 lakh crore was laundered abroad during former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's tenure, claiming it as one of the biggest financial scandals in the country's history.

"If the BNP returns to power, we will bring back the laundered money. For that, there is no alternative to a credible election," the BNP leader said while addressing the biennial council of Barura Upazila and Municipality BNP in Cumilla as the chief guest.

The event, held at Barura Central Eidgah Ground, was inaugurated by former MP Zakaria Taher Sumon, who also serves as the Employment Affairs Secretary of the BNP national executive committee and convener of Cumilla district BNP.

However, Kaiser Alam Selim was elected President of Barura Upazila BNP in the council.

Other office bearers of the unit are General Secretary Syed Jahirul Haque Swapan, Organizing Secretary Nurul Islam Nuru, Senior Vice President Syed Rezaul Haque Reju and Joint General Secretary Moazzem Hossain Kallol.

For the Barura Municipality BNP, freedom fighter Shamsul Haque Sardar was named President with Mofizul Islam as General Secretary and Mostafa Zaman Hanif as Organizing Secretary.

Former Mayor Jasim Uddin Patwary and Zakir Hossain were selected as Senior Vice President and Joint General Secretary of the unit, respectively.
