DHAKA, August 16, 2025 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum made an unannounced visit to the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex in Dhaka today to assess healthcare services and listen to local concerns.

Earlier in the day, the adviser visited the site of an ongoing project of state-owned pharmaceutical company Essential Drugs Limited at the BSCIC Chemical Industrial Park in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj.

Following that inspection, she traveled to Nawabganj Upazila, where she toured the hospital facilities and held a view-exchange meeting with healthcare staff and officials in the complex's conference room.

Addressing the doctors during the meeting, Nurjahan Begum stressed the importance of delivering quality healthcare to rural and marginalized communities.

"Every doctor must fulfill their responsibilities with a focus on serving the people at the grassroots level. We must ensure that villagers are not deprived of essential health services," she said.

The adviser attentively listened to the challenges faced by the hospital, including infrastructure and staffing issues.

She later visited various departments of the health complex and assured that steps would be taken to resolve the existing problems without delay.

In response to questions from journalists present during the visit, Nurjahan Begum said the government has already initiated the process of upgrading upazila-level hospitals to 100-bed facilities.

She added that efforts are also underway to increase the recruitment of doctors and trained nurses to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.

Jahangir Alam, Dhaka Divisional Director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Munshiganj Civil Surgeon and other senior health officials were present, among others.
