33 fishermen held with huge illegal nets in Hatia

NOAKHALI, July 22, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive arrested 33 fishermen along with 30 lakh meters illegal current nets from the Meghna River in Hatia upazila of the district. 

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the information on Tuesday morning. 

He said that Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations to prevent illegal fishing in the inland and maritime waters of Bangladesh and to ensure the proper reproduction of fish. 

On information, a team from Coast Guard Station Hatia conducted a special operation in Chairman Ghat area of the Meghna River on Monday evening and seized two fishing boats with 30 lakh meters illegal current nets worth Taka about 10 crore and arrested 33 fishermen.

The illegal seized current nets were burnt in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
