Manikganj targets over 11 thousand bales of jute this season

MANIKGANJ, July 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target to produce 11,010 bales of jute this season as harvesting has begun in all seven upazilas of the district.

According to DAE sources, a total of 4,295 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation this year, and farmers are expecting a bumper production.

Of the total land, Tosha variety was cultivated on 3,553 hectares with a production target of 9,236 bales. The local variety was grown on 712 hectares with a target of 1,702 bales. Besides, Mesta was cultivated on 20 hectares with a target of 47 bales, while Kenaf was grown on 10 hectares aiming to produce 25 bales.

To encourage production, the government distributed quality jute seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary inputs free of cost among 600 poor and marginal farmers in the district.
