Lightning strike kills schoolboy in Sylhet

SYLHET July 24, 2025 (BSS) - A schoolboy was killed in a lightning strike at Kurihai village of Purba Alirgaon union under Gowainghat upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was Jamil Ahmed Nabil, 14, son of Jalal Uddin of the village and a class nine student of Alirgaon High School.

Nabil went to their family firm land near his house to help others.

Lightning followed by a rainstorm hit Nabil at 7.30 am when he was working the firm land, said Tofail Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station.

Injured Nabil was taken to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
