Woman killed in Madaripur bus accident

MADARIPUR, Oct 03, 2025 (BSS) – A woman was killed and at least 20 others were injured when a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Rajoir upazila of the district early today.

The deceased was identified as Nilufa Yasmin Nila, 30, wife of Abul Basar of Runsi village under Bakerganj upazila in Barishal district.

According to police, the accident occurred at dawn when a Dhaka-bound bus of Chandra Paribahan, departing from Kuakata, lost control after passing the Rajoir bus stand area and plunged into a roadside pond, leaving Nilufa Yasmin Nila dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

Being informed, members of the Highway Police and Fire Service rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation.

Madaripur’s Mostafapur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying that most of the injured suffered minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

The body of the deceased has been sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, he added.
