Indian sarees worth Tk 1.38 cr seized in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-10) has seized a large consignment of Indian sarees worth Taka 1.38 crore during a special anti-smuggling operation in the border areas of the district.

Battalion Commander Mir Ali Ejaz confirmed the seizure to the media on Sunday (November 30) afternoon.

According to BGB sources, the battalion regularly conducts patrols and surveillance to prevent smuggling and curb cross-border crimes. As part of this effort, a special patrol team launched an anti-drug and anti-smuggling operation around 5:30 am on Sunday.

During the operation, the patrol team intercepted a caravan van loaded with various types of Indian sarees in the Mainamati Cantonment Bazar area-approximately eight kilometers inside Bangladesh territory. The vehicle was found abandoned with no owner present.

The seized sarees have an estimated market value of Taka 1 crore 38 lakh 41 thousand.

BGB officials said the confiscated items will be handed over to the customs godown in accordance with legal procedures, and further action will follow as per the law.
