SUNAMGANJ, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - Sunamganj Liberation Day was observed today with due solemnity, marking the district's liberation from Pakistani occupation forces on December 6, 1971.

Freedom fighters, local officials, and various organizations organized rallies, discussion sessions, and other programmes to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.

On that historic day, Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators fled the district, and local residents took to the streets in celebration.

As part of the observance, a painting competition for children and teenagers, jointly organized by the District Administration and the Bangladesh Children's Academy was held at 9:30 am at the Sunamganj Heritage Museum.

Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner Nasrin Akhter, District Children's Affairs Officer Badal Chandra Barman and painter Swapan Chowdhury served as judges for the competition.

The prize-giving ceremony for the winners will be held during the Victory Day celebrations on December 16, 2025.
