RANGPUR, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration on Tuesday evening organised a discussion at the Pairaband Government Begum Rokeya Memorial Degree College ground in Mithapukur upazila of the district marking Begum Rokeya Day-2025.

Speakers at the discussion stressed the need for spreading Begum Rokeya's ideals, philosophy and teachings across all levels of society to advance women's education, rights and empowerment.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam attended the programme as chief guest, with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan in the chair.

Rangpur Range DIG Md Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, Police Superintendent Md Marufat Hussaine, Professor Md Shahjahan Kabir of Government Begum Rokeya College and Mithapukur UNO Md Parvez spoke as special guests.

Speakers said discrimination, repression and violence against women can be prevented by promoting the ideals and moral courage espoused by Begum Rokeya. They recalled that she was the first to realise that no society can progress without ensuring women's education and rights.

The Divisional Commissioner said Rokeya's dream is gradually being reflected in society as women's participation in all sectors has increased significantly. He noted that women now pursue higher studies abroad, though rural girls still lag behind their urban peers.

He urged all stakeholders to work to reduce this disparity, saying no society can move forward by leaving half its population behind. He called on women to be inspired by Rokeya's ideals.

Government officials, teachers, students and people from all walks of life attended the discussion.
