Rokeya Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya Day-2025 was observed in the district on Tuesday with due respect and in a befitting manner.

The district administration and the Department of Women Affairs, in association with Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), organized a rally, discussion meeting, prize-giving for adamyo women and women's sports competitions.

A grand rally was brought out from Independence Square and ended at the Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA), led by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Nahid Rasul.

A discussion on the life and contributions of Begum Rokeya was later held at the ZSA auditorium with Additional ADC (Development & HRM) AKM Hedayetul Islam in the chair. Sadar UNO Lailatul Hossain, Additional SP Bidroho Kumar Kundu, GUK Senior Programme Manager Joya Prosad and others spoke.

Speakers highlighted Begum Rokeya's role in women's education, economic emancipation and social awakening. She was born on December 9, 1880, in Pairaband under Rangpur district and died on the same date in 1932 in Kolkata.

Prizes under the Jayeeta programme were distributed among five adamyo women who achieved success despite adversity.

A large number of women, officials and journalists attended the event.
