BAGERHAT, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS) - A brick kiln worker was killed after being run over by a covered van in Mollahat upazila of the district early today.

The accident occurred around 5:30 am on the Abul Khair Bridge over the Madhumoti River.

The deceased was identified as Thakur, 55, of Girishnagar village in the upazila.

Police said Thakur was pushing his bicycle across the bridge on his way to work when a covered van coming from Gopalganj veered into the opposite lane and hit him. The vehicle sped away towards Khulna after the incident.

Thakur died on the spot, while the van driver managed to flee.

Mollahat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident.

OC told BSS that the body will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures.
