DHAKA, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the broad-daylight assassination attempt on Inqilab Moncho spokesperson and aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Sharif Osman Hadi.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Hadi at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this evening, he said, "Such an incident, just a day after the announcement of the election schedule, is deeply alarming. The perpetrators must be arrested immediately, and those behind this attack must be clearly identified and presented before the nation."
The Jamaat Ameer warned against any attempt to revive "fascism or a reign of terror" in the country, saying such moves would be met with a swift response from the people.
"I have spoken to the physicians and to his siblings. We are shocked, stunned, and outraged by this incident. The cowards responsible must be identified immediately and brought to justice," he added.
The nation must not be intimidated, Shafiqur Rahman said, adding, "One message is very clear -- the nation will not bow to bullets, God willing. We do not fear bullets."
He also prayed for Hadi's recovery, saying, "May he return and join us again on the streets in the struggle for freedom. His condition is extremely critical. He is now between life and death."
Earlier in the afternoon, Hadi was shot in the capital's Bijoynagar area. He was rushed to DMCH, where he was placed on life support, according to the hospital director's office.
