Discussion held in Bagerhat marking Martyred Intellectuals Day

BAGERHAT, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion was held today at the Upazila Parishad hall in Chitalmari Upazila of the district marking Martyred Intellectuals' Day.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Sajjad Hossain presided over the programme, while Upazila LGED Engineer Md Saddam Hossain moderated it.

The speakers said that on this day in 1971, teachers, journalists, intellectuals, engineers and doctors were selectively killed to render the nation spineless. They added that the nation observes the day every year to pay deep respect to the martyred intellectuals and to inspire the younger generation with the spirit of the Liberation War.

The meeting was, among others, addressed by Upazila Animal Resources Officer Md Ahmed Iqbal, Upazila Primary Education Officer Achyutananda Das, Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee President Md Kamruzzaman Khan Piklu, and freedom fighter Atiyar Gazi.
