3 traders fined Tk 2 lakh for overcharging gas cylinders in Tangail

TANGAIL, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Department of Consumer Rights has imposed fines totaling Taka 2 lakh on three traders in Tangail for selling gas cylinders above the government-regulated price.

The action was taken during a drive conducted by Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director of the District Consumer Rights Department, at Garasin Bazar in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning.

According to the official, Zaman Traders was fined Taka 50,000, Asma Traders of Kumulli Bazar Taka 100,000, and Azad Traders of Kortia Bazar Taka 50,000 for selling gas cylinders without proper sales receipts and charging higher-than-permitted prices.

The drive was carried out with the participation of Sadar Upazila Sanitary Inspector Sahida Akhter, Abu Zubair Ujjal, General Secretary of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) District Branch, as well as members of the Bangladesh Army and Police.

The department urged all traders to follow government-set pricing rules and maintain proper sales documentation to avoid penalties.
