PANCHAGARH, Jan 07, 2026 (BSS) – Minimum temperature in Panchagarh fell to 7.5 degrees Celsius this morning, the lowest of the season so far in the district, as a moderate cold wave continues to sweep across the district.
Thick fog has blanketed roads and highways since nightfall, reducing visibility sharply and leaving the region reeling under biting cold.
According to the Tetulia Weather Observation Centre, the temperature was recorded 7.5 degrees Celsius at 9am today, compared to 8.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The Met Office said temperatures between 6.1 and 8 degrees Celsius indicate a moderate cold wave, which is currently prevailing in the area.
The severity of winter has intensified in recent days, disrupting normal life. As night advances, the cold grows harsher, while fog lingers until morning and the sun remains barely visible during the day.
Day labourers are suffering most, many unable to reach work on time due to the freezing conditions. Vehicle drivers are also facing difficulties, forced to move cautiously with headlights on even in daylight hours.
To cope, residents are seen burning straw and dry leaves to keep them warm.
Senior Observer of the Tetulia Weather Observation Centre Jitendranath Roy said humidity stood at 100 percent this morning, with wind speeds ranging between six and 18 kilometres per hour. He added that such cold conditions may persist throughout January.
