KHULNA, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - Farmers in the Khulna region have completed harvesting and threshing of Aman paddy, bringing smiles to thousands as bumper production exceeded the target this season.

With expectations of high yields, farmers worked day and night from mid-December 2025 to bring home the mature crop. According to data of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), harvesting was completed 100 percent by January 13, 2026, with bumper production recorded in most areas.

The DAE said the target for transplanted Aman cultivation in four districts of the Khulna division during the 2025-26 fiscal year was 298,635 hectares. Against the target, cultivation was carried out on 290,342 hectares, achieving 97.2 percent of the goal.

Harvesting has been completed on all cultivated lands in Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Narail districts.

The DAE initially estimated Aman rice production in the region at around 859,902 metric tonnes. However, following completion of harvesting, actual production stood at 857,921 tonnes, exceeding the revised target and confirming bumper output.

During a visit to Dighalia upazila last week, farmers expressed satisfaction with the Aman harvest. They said they had earlier feared damage to mature paddy due to untimely rain or natural disasters, but favourable weather allowed safe harvesting.

Talking to BSS, Murad Ahmed, a farmer of Dighalia upazila, said, "The production is very good this year. Harvesting and threshing were completed without rainfall, and we have already brought the paddy home."
Hedayet Ullah of Gazirhat village said he had completed harvesting and threshing and was now preparing his land for cultivating pulses and other Rabi crops.

Agriculture Officer of Dighalia upazila Md Kishor Ahmed told BSS that farmers were very happy with the bumper Aman production. "To avoid losses from natural calamities, we advised farmers to harvest early and store grains safely," he said.

He added that favourable weather conditions played a vital role in ensuring good yields and that guidance was provided on proper threshing and storage. "We are pleased as production exceeded the target," he said.

In Dighalia upazila's Panigati village, farmer Mossadek Ali said he cultivated Aman on 20 bighas of land and harvested around 260 maunds of paddy. Another farmer, Samir Sen of Broxmoghati village, cultivated Aman on 40 bighas and harvested about 320 maunds.

In Bagerhat's Sharankhola upazila, farmer Habibur Rahman Khan said harvesting and threshing had been completed. "I was worried about possible rain, but it was a relief once all the paddy was safely stored at home," he said.

Meanwhile, in Dumuria upazila, farmer Atiar Rahman said preparations for Rabi crops had already begun. "The Aman season is almost over. Now we must prepare the land for pulses and other Rabi crops," he added.

Rafiqul Islam, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Khulna region, said Aman harvesting had been completed across the region and farmers were happy as production exceeded the target.

"Preparations for Rabi crops are underway, and farmers in Khulna remain hopeful for a productive and profitable season ahead," he said.
