KHULNA, Jan 22, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Betar Khulna Centre today organised a community broadcast titled "Bangladesh Betar in Referendum and Election" at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city, marking the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhter Ahmed attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the event, he said the nation is heading towards two significant democratic exercises - the parliamentary election and the referendum. While voters are generally familiar with the Jatiya Sangsad polls, many lack adequate understanding of the referendum process as it is not held regularly, he observed.
He said the referendum offers voters two choices - 'Yes' and 'No' - which they will exercise according to their opinion.
Referring to the country's political and democratic situation over the past 16 years, the divisional commissioner said a historic 36-page July Charter was prepared following a review of democracy, public aspirations and the rule of law.
He said a condensed version of the July Charter has been incorporated into the referendum and parliamentary election ballots in the form of several points, urging voters to cast their votes responsibly as the country's future depends on their decision.
Presided over by Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Khulna Centre Md Shamim Hossain, the programme was also addressed by Additional Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Md Ariful Islam, Additional Regional Election Officer Md Moniruzzaman and Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam.
Regional News Controller of Bangladesh Betar Khulna Md Nurul Islam delivered the welcome address.
