Main accused in Rangpur double murder case held from Dhaka

RANGPUR, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in the double murder case of Taraganj police station in Rangpur from Shahbagh under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Dhaka city on Saturday afternoon.

The arrested was identified as Md Mehedi Hasan, 30, son of Md Isahaque Ali of village Faridabad under Taraganj police station of Rangpur district, a press release said here today.
 
Victim Ruplal Rabidas, 40, of Ghonirampur village in Taraganj upazila and his nephew-in-law Pradeep Lal, 45, of village Baluabhata in Mithapukur upazila were traveling from Mithapukur upazila to Taraganj upazila in Rangpur at night on August 9, 2025.
 
On their way, some people questioned the victims at 8.30 pm on Burirhat Bottola intersection under Taraganj police station in Rangpur, suspecting the victims. 
 
At one stage of the interrogation, the agitated mob took the two victims to the Burirhat High School grounds on at 9 pm and beat them up with sticks and iron rods, resulting in serious injuries to the two victims. 
 
Victim Ruplal Rabidas died on the spot and his nephew-in-law Pradeep Lal succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 4 am on August 10, 2025.
 
In the incident, victim Ruplal's wife filed a murder case with the Taraganj police station in Rangpur on August 10, 2025.
 
On a tip off, a joint operational team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-10 from Keraniganj Camp in a raid arrested the main accused in the case Md Mehedi Hasan from the Shahbagh area in Dhaka at 4:10 pm on Saturday.
 
The arrested accused has been handed over to Taraganj police station in Rangpur for further legal action.
