NARAIL, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - Farmers and agricultural officials of the district are hopeful of a bumper production of winter vegetables this season, driven by favorable weather conditions, sufficient agricultural inputs and institutional support.
Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Muhammad Arifur Rahman said the congenial weather along with the adequate availability of fertilizers and pesticides has created strong prospects for high yields of winter vegetables across the district.
He added that Bangladesh Krishi Bank, along with other government and private banks, has ensured the timely distribution of agricultural loans, which has significantly supported farmers in Sadar, Lohagara and Kalia upazilas.
To meet growing demand, the DAE is also providing incentives, technical assistance and field-level guidance to encourage farmers to maximize production using limited cultivable land.
"We are hopeful of a bumper harvest of winter vegetables in the district this season," Rahman said.
According to DAE sources, a production target of 74,073 tonnes of winter vegetables has been set from 3,140 hectares of land in Narail district. Of this, 1,285 hectares are under cultivation in Sadar upazila, 695 hectares in Lohagara upazila and 1,160 hectares in Kalia upazila.
DAE Sub Assistant Agricultural Officer Nipu Majumder said the district's fertile agricultural land is highly suitable for vegetable cultivation. As a result, farmers are increasingly cultivating a wide variety of winter vegetables, including brinjal, cauliflower, gourd, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, radish, broccoli, cucumber, pumpkin, sweet pumpkin and other red and green vegetables.
He said that winter vegetable farming has become an attractive option for farmers as it allows them to earn higher profits by selling produce in local markets.
