BOGURA, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh army on Wednesday arrested top-listed terrorist Atiq Hasan, 30, along with foreign made firearms, live ammunition and domestic weapons during a raid in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila.

The raid was carried out from Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon at Baginapara village under Sabrul union of the upazila, acting on secret intelligence information, army sources said.

According to the army, the recovered weapons and ammunition had been stockpiled with the intention of carrying out subversive activities in the area ahead of the upcoming national elections.

The arrested Atiq is an active member of the criminal group known as "Nuru Bahini," led by Nuruzzaman alias Nuru, the fugitive general secretary of the Shajahanpur Upazila Swechchhasebak League.

Army officials said Atiq attempted to flee by climbing onto the roof of his house after sensing the presence of the security forces. He was, however, apprehended at the scene.

Following his arrest, a 9mm pistol, 15 rounds of live ammunition, two magazines and 10 domestically made weapons were recovered from his possession during interrogation, the army added.

Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Amin said that there are a total of five cases against Atiq, including a weapons case, an attempt to murder case and a case filed in the July-August mass uprising. The process of taking legal action in this case is underway.
