Father killed, son injured in pickup van crash in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - A man was killed and his minor son injured after a pickup van hit their motorcycle in Chakaria upazila of the district early today.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Hossain, 45, a resident of Baraitali union of the upazila. His son Shamim Hossain, 11, sustained critical injuries in the accident.

The accident occurred around 2:00 am on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway near the Nolbila Beat-cum-Check Post area under Chakaria upazila.

According to highway police and local sources, Nurul Hossain and his son were heading towards Chakaria municipality town by motorcycle when the vehicle collided with a pickup van in the Nolbila area, leaving both critically injured.

Locals rescued them and took them to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Nurul Hossain dead. 

As Shamim's condition deteriorated, he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Chiringa Highway Police Station Md Ariful Amin confirmed the matter.

The pickup van has been seized, but its driver managed to flee. Legal action regarding the accident is underway, he added.
