527.36 tons rice allocated for fishermen in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Mar 13, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 527.36 metric tons of rice has been allocated under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for 3,296 registered fishermen families in Munshiganj during the jhatka fishing ban.

According to the District Fisheries Office, fishing of jhatka remains prohibited in the Padma and Meghna rivers from February to May to protect hilsa sanctuaries. 

During this period, each registered fisherman family receives 40 kg of rice per month as food assistance.

The allocated rice will be distributed among 700 families in Sadar upazila, 411 in Srinagar, 476 in Tongibari, 1,109 in Louhajang and 700 in Gazaria upazila.
